On August 27th, 2016 a football player from the San Francisco 49ers sat during the National Anthem in the beginning of the game against Green Bay Packers.Colin Kaepernick stated, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street, and the cops are getting paid leave.”

The NFL responded by saying players are encouraged to stand, but it’s not required to stand during the National anthem. I personally talked to the Inglewood high varsity football team, and they said there’s nothing wrong for standing up for what’s right.
