It’s that time of year again. Time for a visit from the university acceptance fairy? No! It’s time to get your applications to colleges and universities ready and submitted!
Your first stop might be the Common App. The Common App is your gateway to apply to nearly 700 private and out of state universities. Which ones are they? Click here for the list. You’ll probably need a personal statement or two, as well as letter of recommendation for these applications. Your deadlines will vary; each member institution sets their own, after all. So, stay on top of your due dates.
Want to apply to a CSU, like Dominguez Hills or Long Beach? You’ll need to start at CSU Mentor. All 23 California State Universities use CSU Mentor as their application portal. The application period for Fall 2017 is from October 1st until November 30th. You won’t need letters of recommendation or a personal statement for the CSUs, unless you’re applying to their EOP. Do you need help deciding which campus may be right for you? Use their comparative view tool. Or, you can just apply to CSUDH. Go Toros!
“But, Ms. Dragich, I want to go to UCLA!” I hear you yell. Wow, dial it back a bit. I shouldn’t be hearing you through the screen. From November 1st through November 30th, you can submit your applications to the University of California campuses. You’ll need four personal statements but no letters of recommendation. Read about the changes to the UC personal statements here. You only have 30 days, so don’t dawdle.
What if your dream school isn’t listed among these options? Well, that means you need to check the university’s web site for their application instructions.
Happy hunting, seniors!
