High School Football Concussions

Concussions in high school football have grown tremendously and have been getting more severe. In some cases, it can lead to death.

According to pbs.org, the rate of concussions for high school football players is extremely high. For every  10,000 games and practices there are 11.2 concussions! With college players, the rate is only 6.3.Studies haven’t been proven as to why high school football players’ rate is higher. But, I would assume that the cause would be from not knowing how to hit properly or brace for impact. From my experience playing football, if the player’s helmet is not provided with enough cushion, your head will rattle every time you make powerful contact with a player. .

Concussion Symptoms

  • Depression
  • Suicidal impulses
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Double or blurred vision

If you have any symptoms of a concussion, you should tell the coach right away, even if you are in the middle of a game or practice. See a doctor right away. At anytime, do not fall asleep. It may lead to death
