Split is a 2016 American psychological thriller, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The plot follows a man with twenty three different personalities who kidnaps three teenage girls, Casey, Claire, and Marcia. The girls are held captive by “Dennis,” one of the twenty threes personalities present in the mind of Kevin Wendell Crump.

During childhood, Kevin’s mother abused him and he was abandoned by his father in the time he most needed his father. Due to the abuse and loss of his father, Kevin developed an mental illness, Dissociative Identity Disorder. The personalities began manifesting to help Kevin cope with the hardships of his life.

The girls try to work out which of those personalities will help them escape and which personalities will try to stop them. The girls attend to escape before the last and sinister twenty fourth, (The Beast) personality  reveals itself. Kevin`s psychiatrist, Dr. Karen Fletcher thinks Kevin and his personalities are stable, but gets an email from “Barry,” the protective personality for help. Dr. Fletcher takes a chance to retrieve Kevin, but he is too far in the dark while his other personalities are being held in the light. Just before Dr. Fletcher is murdered, she writes the only way to release Kevin back to the light is to speak his full name.

The “Beast,” manifesting superhuman speed, strength, resilience, and agility, is unleashed. The “Beast” first kills  and cannibalizes Marcia, and then Claire. Then, the “Beast” goes after Casey, voicing his plan to rid the world of “untouched,” those whose hearts are impure because they have never suffered in their lives. While running from the “Beast,” Casey`s shirt is ripped and her torso is exposed into the light, the “Beast” recognizes her scars. The “Beast” spares Casey because she is pure and she knows the true meaning of suffering. Casey experienced abuse as well as Kevin; she was continuously molested by her uncle during her childhood.

Split is the best M. Night Shyamalan creation in recent memory, Shyamalan made an comeback with this tense, satisfying horror- thriller. Shyamalan is known for his proper twists and endings, 100 percent true when Split came into view. There was outstanding, shocking, and unimaginable twists and an amazing shocking ending. Split is a wonderful movie to watch, I advise all my peers with an sharp mind to take into consideration of watching the movie!!
